The 244th Anniversary of Istanbul Technical University was celebrated on May 13, Saturday at ITU North Cyprus Famagusta Campus with various activities.
The event which the Famagusta Municipality Mayor İsmail ARTER, ITU Alumni Association Cyprus members, ITU North Cyprus personnel and School of Foreign Languages students attended started with the opening speech of ITU North Cyprus Rector Prof. Dr. Ercan KAHYA.
Rector KAHYA mentioned that the ITU Day celebrations will continue as a tradition in the ITU North Cyprus Campuses and presented Mayor ARTER with a plaque for the contributions of the municipality to ITU Day. The performances of the Famagusta Municipality Folk Dance Group and Kuzeyin Yıldızları Dance Group were greatly enjoyed by the audience.
After the dance performances, the activities continued with a three-themed art exhibition with the photos of ITU Pole Research Center’s 2016 Antarctic Research Voyage, ITU North Cyprus Sea Sports Club Underwater Photography and the paintings from Famagusta Art Gathering Event.
A kite festival was held within the framework of the activities. ITU-TRNC students prepared their kites with the mentorship of their teachers and presented them to the judges. After the evaluation of the judges, students, personnel and all the guests flew their kites at the Famagusta Campus. At the end of the kite competition, ITU Alumni Association Cyprus Board Member and Accountant Gökhan NAİM presented the prizes to the first three groups in memory of Erdoğan NAİM.
The celebrations which continued with the music concert of ITU North Cyprus Music Club, ended with a quiz for students, a table tennis tournament and other various outside activities.
