Istanbul Technical University (ITU) Faculty of Architecture Master students are working on preparing new design projects to renovate Train Maintenance Hangar located in ITU North Cyprus Famagusta Campus into a Student Center.
This Train Hangar project was introduced as a part of Architectural Design II (MTZ511E) lesson taught in Non-Thesis MA program of ITU Institute of Science and Technology in 2018-2019 Fall term by ITU Faculty of Architecture lecturer, Assoc. Prof. Dr Dilek YILDIZ and architect Burak PELENK.
Master students İlknur GÜNGÖR, Damla Pınar ÇELİK, Hande SANDAL, Mürsel TEKİNER and Ozan MANSUR are working on some interior design ideas that can be used to transform the old maintenance hangar into a fully functioning Student Center.
Students and instructors visited ITU North Cyprus Famagusta Campus between March 26 and 28, 2019 and had the chance to observe the train hangar. ITU North Cyprus Rector Prof. Dr. Ercan KAHYA accompanied the group and shared information about the building.
ITU Faculty of Architecture lecturer Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dilek YILDIZ said that the first drafts of the projects will be ready within three weeks, and that two projects that will be selected are going to be developed and given their final form. The selected projects, which will be completed by the end of the semester, are expected to be used for the building of Famagusta Campus Student Center.
